Jongmoon Kim

CEO

Jongmoon Kim is the Chief Executive Officer of ToolGen. His previous work in IT led to a milestone in the history of IT in Korea: He founded Thrunet, which provided Korea’s first high-speed Internet access service and was the first Korean company to be listed on NASDAQ. He also has experience with several other IT companies, including IBM Korea, Solvit, and Trigem Computer.

Since 2001, he has extended his knowledge from IT to BT. He brings an innovative managerial perspective to ToolGen, which builds on his shared experiences with IT and BT.

Jongmoon Kim studied political science at Yonsei University where he received a Master’s degree in Public administration. He completed the course of a doctorate in Policy Studies at Newcastle University in the United Kingdom and is currently working as an adjunct professor at Sookmyung Women’s University, Yonsei University and Catholic University in Korea. Jongmoon Kim joined Toolgen in December 2012.

Soekjoong Kim

Ph.D. Business Development Director / Member of Directors’ Board

Seokjoong Kim, Ph.D., is now Business Development(BD) Director of ToolGen. He had been Research Director from 2010 to 2017. After joined ToolGen in 2010, he led ToolGen’s 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation Genome Editing technology development plan.

He also led the job of turning ToolGen’s genome editing technology into business. He devoted to set up ToolGen’s main therapeutic pipelines which are taking innovative approaches based on CRISPR/Cas9 technologies. He is now in charge of new business strategy planning.

He started genome editing career as post-doctoral researchers in Dr. Kim, Jin-soo’ s lab in Seoul National University from 2007 to 2010. He received a Ph.D in molecular medicine from University of Texas Health Science Center at San antonio in 2007 and a B.S. in life science from Handong University in 2001.

Jungmin Lee

Ph.D., Head of Therapeutics

Jungmin Lee, Ph. D., is Research Head of Therapeutics in ToolGen. He leads teams to develop a diversity of therapeutic programs based on CRISPR/Cas9 technology.

He did stem cell research for therapeutic use during his post-doc training. After he joined ToolGen in 2017, he is trying to develop CRISPR/Cas9 based cell therapy, stem cell therapy and gene therapy.

He received B.S. in life science from Handong University(2001), M.S.(2003) and Ph. D. (2009) from Seoul National University. He trained as post-doc fellow at UCSD, Salk Institute and Harvard Medical School.

Jungjoon Lee

Ph.D., Research Head of Platform Development

His team is developing technology to optimize Cas9 in therapeutic and green-bio application. By fortifying patent portfolio, Toolgen would hold strong position in patent landscape, ensuring competitive advantage in business opportunities such as license out or commercialization.

He received B.S.(2005) and M.S.(2005) from Cambridge University, and Ph. D. (2011) from Stanford University. He worked as researcher for Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology(SAIT) and Institute of Molecular biology and Genetics in Seoul National University.

Okjae Koo

DVM, Ph.D. Head of GreenBio Business

Okjae Koo is DVM and he received his Ph.D. in veterinary medicine from Seoul National University in 2009. He has more than 14 years of experience in generating transgenic animals and had been research partner with ToolGen since 2009.

Prior to joining ToolGen, he had beed trained as a visiting fellow in NIH and worked as assistant professor in Seoul National University GBST and as research staff in Samsung SAIT.

During this period he continues to optimize the used of ZFN, TALEN and CRISPR/Cas9 technologies for targeted modification of various animals (from rodents to livestock). After he joined ToolGen in 2016, he has been focusing his effort to develop optimized genome editing platform specialized in plant and animal.

He also did role in business development/partnering in agricultural business field.
